Coaching with the Emotional Brain

Have you ever thought about the particular neurological processes that inhibit people from changing? In our coaching work with clients, many of us have experienced the following frustrating scenario: As a result of the coaching, our client has developed a clear strategy and defined the next steps to take to achieve their goal. But something blocks him/her from putting that hard-won new strategy into actual
practice.

Very often these blocks are non-conscious. Learn exactly what’s behind those blocks and other unpleasant and dysfunctional emotional responses. In this presentation and live demonstration, you will hear about the specific part of the brain that creates these blocks and how we can “speak its language” to achieve lasting results in coaching.

In this session you will learn:

  • Why is it impossible to “talk ourselves out of” an emotion?
  • The limbic system and its important role in our behavior
  • Methods of “communicating” with the limbic system to use our brain and mind to work for, rather than against, our best interest
  • Why talking about the client’s issues often isn’t enough to achieve the desired result (and what our brains have to do with this).
  • You will have a strategy to enhance positive emotional states and two strategies to calm down anunpleasant emotional response.
You will leave with a new understanding on what often inhibits people from changing, and some new tools to calm down the limbic system and enhance pleasant emotional states in coaching.
