DESCRIPTION
Culturally relevant coaching is a racial equity practice if we understand racial equity practice as the intentional and continual practice of eliminating disparities that individuals experience because of their race and ethnicity. My Culturally Competent Coaching or Culturally Relevant Coaching aims to do that exactly: eliminate the disparities in access to resources, opportunities, wealth, mental health, etc that historically marginalized individuals—and in my case, Latinas—experience.
In this session, we will discuss what we understand by Culturally Relevant Coaching for Latinas, and how this is based on the understanding that Latinas, as a group, have lived experiences and perspectives that differ greatly from other mainstream groups. Culturally Relevant Coaching also recognizes that what works for others might not work for Latinas, and they deserve specific coaching that takes into account Latinas' cultural understandings, background experiences, and takes advantage of the special strengths that they bring to the table. In other words, Latinas deserve support that meets their specific needs and can be provided through culturally relevant coaching which can also create inclusive workplaces and break patterns of exclusion and underrepresentation.
