Ethics boring? Not on Jim Smith’s watch. With a mix of wisdom, wit, and just the right amount of troublemaking, this session will breathe new life into the ICF Code of Ethics. We'll look at what’s changed, what’s stayed rock-solid, and how to navigate the beautifully messy middle of real-life coaching dilemmas. Expect laughter, reflection, and a fresh take on what it means to stay grounded, ethical, and fully human in today’s coaching world.

About the session:

In today’s complex coaching landscape, ethical clarity is more essential—and more nuanced—than ever. This interactive session will help coaches at all levels reconnect with the heart of ethical practice while unpacking the most significant changes in the 2025 ICF Code of Ethics (COE).

We’ll begin with a brief refresher on the foundational commitments of the COE, then spotlight what’s new. Equally important, we’ll explore what hasn’t changed, reinforcing the timeless principles that continue to shape ethical excellence in coaching.

The heart of the COE lies in the “messy middle”—those gray areas where coaches must navigate real-life dilemmas without clear-cut answers. We will use brief scenarios to navigate through the fog.

Whether you're new to coaching or a seasoned PCC or MCC, you'll gain a clearer understanding of what ethical alignment looks like today—and how to stay grounded when things get ethically complicated.

About the speaker:

Jim Smith is The Executive Happiness Coach®, a global executive coach, speaker, author, and troublemaker. His passion is to create a Happier world and workplace, one Leader at a time.

Jim has coached leaders from 42 countries and six continents, and serves as a mentor coach and faculty for four coaching schools in the US, SE Asia, and India. He was one of the original local chapter liaisons to global ICF in 2010 and has served as an ICF Ethics trainer since 2013. Ethics can seem boring, and Jim like to get people excited about it!
